A while ago, it struck me that nearly all artistic people are also cat people. Like us, they are curious about the world around them and always there when something is happening. If you have a cat, you’re bound to have cat hair on your furniture. Cats are very selective on where they spend their resting periods: only the best place is good enough. Because cats spend so much time with their beauty dreams, they are incredibly beautiful companions.

Like all good ideas, this one was nearly accidental. We cleaned the resting place of His Royal Highness and we rolled a small ball from the cat hair on the sofa. It was one of the most popular toys we’ve ever seen. He played football all nights for two weeks with his hairball. Since then, pile of balls has grown, and every time the new one is a hot toy for a moment. Thinking of what to do with the old ones, I joked that I can make cat hair jewelry. And so I did. Ladies and gentlemen, cat hair jewelry is here!

Ingredients: at least one cat and a piece of furniture loved by the cat(s). The cat is a bit grumpy, when people hang around with camera. We are truly sorry for the inconvenience, Your Royal Highness!

After he had had his sleep, we collected cat hair from the sofa. Wet hands are efficient in collecting the hair. This is all undercoat of the cat.

Roll the hair (with dry hands) into a ball in your palms.

He spotted it right away. Game is afoot, Mr Watson!

His Royal Highness allowed me to use old cat hair balls in beading.

Now it’s time to make a hole in the bead. You need a big fat needle to punch the hole so that beading wire can go through. Roll the needle to make a proper hole. Or you can use needle and thread instead of beading wire.

The needle leaves a hole that disappears quickly, so you must be quick, too. Push the beading wire in right after the needle. Needle can be still partially in the bead when you send in the beading wire.

Then is the hard part: try to find beads that go with cat hair.

Invaluable!
