Sometimes summer can be unpredictable. In Finland we have often enjoyed long hot summers but this year the summer hardly deserves to be called a summer. There have been some warm days but the summer has been exceptionally cold. So you’ll just have to have summer attitude. In case the summer decided to come overnight, I have made an anklet to wear on a sunny summer day.
You’ll need:
– chain
– pins
– beads of two different sizes, the smaller ones would be 2-3 mm
– a toggle clasp
– three pairs of pliers: one for cutting, bending and pinching
Place two beads to the end of a pin. Leave about a finger-wide piece of pin, cut the rest. It’s wise to keep your thumb at the end of pin so that it won’t fly across the room. Beads here can be any color or shape you desire but round or rounded ones are most comfortable to wear. Bicones, on the other hand, have edges that don’t feel that nice.
Bend the pin with pliers. Leave the loop open.
Use your ankle as a measuring stick and cut the chain accordingly. When you cut the chain, see that all bits are accounted for. Those small bits often find themselves all over the floor and finally in someone’s foot. Insert your beaded pin to the chain and close the loop with pliers. Keep on going this way it looks good in your eyes.
Then it’s time to add the clasp. Remove the head from a pin. Then bend a loop, place a bead in the middle and bend the other end. To one end you attach the clasp, the chain goes to other one. Finally, close the loop with pliers. Repeat this in the other end of the chain.
If all went perfectly, you have just made yourself an anklet. But if not and your anklet is a bit short, you can bend one more pin into loops to add some length to it. If it’s too long, gently open the loop that is attached to the chain and cut a small bit off the chain. Then slip the new chain end to the loop and close it.
Then you’ll just wait for a warm sunny day to let your ankles show. Fortunately it’s appropriate these days.
