Summer has reached its midpoint on northern hemisphere, and one of the most popular summer shoes are flip-flops. They are cheap and last for one summer, plus they have excellent air-conditioning. They are sold in all colours and sizes, take your pick. After you’ve picked your favourite pair, you can make it even better-looking with some beads. It’s easy!

Here’s what you’ll do:
Take two equally long threads, about 45 cm or 1,5 ft. I’m using grey here because it goes together well with so many colours. Then you’ll need two kinds of beads, small and smaller. I used 5 mm bicones (17 pieces) and size 11 beads (28 pieces).
Take the threads, and measure 15 cm or 6 inches from tail. Tie the threads together with two knots, and leave the tails hanging. I call the technique “8-loop” because it looks a bit like endless number 8.
Now you have two options. You can either use two beading needles or do it without them, but it’s easier with needles.

Step 1. Place 2 beads, 1 bicone, and 1 bead to each thread.

Step 2. Take 1 bicone and pass the threads from opposite sides through the bicone.

Step 3. Place 1 bead, 1 bicone and 1 bead to each thread, and repeat step 2.
Repeat step 3 until you reached the desired length.

Step 4. Place 1 bead, 1 bicone and 2 beads to each thread. Tie the threads together with two knots.

You can make the “installation” even more secure by adding some glue to hold everything together. I won’t promise that it’ll last forever but the “life expectancy” of flip-flops isn’t usually that long anyway.

Secure with tape, and let it dry over night.

cut threads

On the next day, tie loose threads, cut extras. and remove the tape.

Now you have the coolest flip-flops to show off! With this technique, you can make a matching bracelet or necklace if you like.
